Mercer Says Agents Attacked By Illegals

5 miles north of the border near Naco, AZ, inside the United States, inside Congressional District 3, according to a Reuters report, three Border Patrol agents took fire while traveling up a trail on horseback. Details are slim but one agent, Nicholas Ivie, 30, has been killed and another unidentified agent has been wounded. This is the first agent shooting since 2010.

Gabriela Saucedo Mercer posted this to her Facebook page the morning of the incident:

"And yet another one of our finest Border Patrol Agent is murdered by illegals and one seriously wounded. And some people don't want me to talk about the wide open borders in Arizona?
My heart and prayers go out to the families of the Border Patrol Agents involved in this tragedy."

Neither of these reports, nor any other report at the time of this writing (8:24 PM), has stated that the Agents were attacked by illegals. The Huff Post story Mercer linked to is reporting that "Authorities have not identified any suspects."  NBC has reported that 2 individuals have been apprehended by Mexican authorities, but they have not yet been identified. Arizona Daily Star reports that Officials remain tight lipped about the investigation.

Mercer posted her statement saying that the Agents were attacked by illegals at 8:26 AM.

The headline at Christian Science Monitor 12 hours later reads "No Suspects Yet" In Border Patrol Shooting

AP is reporting, as is ABC, that the "crime scene is still being processed." The site is in rocky terrain.

CD3 Incumbent Raul Grijalva said in his Facebook statement :

"I join the entire Border Patrol community in demanding justice and accountability. This crime cannot, and will not, pass without a swift and appropriate response. As the investigation goes forward, I encourage everyone to refrain from exploiting today’s tragedy for their own purposes."
His Official Statement can be found here.

There is no statement from Libertarian candidate Blanca Guerra at this time.

  1. This is my comment on Saucedo Mercer's Facebook page:

Shame on you for making assumptions as to who committed this horrible crime. You have behaved in typical Romney fashion, comment on a tragedy before you know the specifics to further your political career! You should retract your irresponsible statement until that time that you have proof of the culprit.
