Mercer's Twisted Knowledge of American History

Gabriela Saucedo Mercer seems to have her own version of American history. As a legal immigrant, I thought Mercer, as an applicant, was supposed to prove knowledge of the subject and pass a simple test.

In a recent Facebook post, Mercer made an extraordinary claim: "Democrats fought against the blacks during the civil rights movement." That's not the way I remember history, and I lived through it. For those with any doubts, here is an amazing story about how Robert Kennedy, a democrat, subdued a riot and soothed the pain of a community when he was challenged to deliver the news to a crowd waiting to hear him speak that Martin Luther King had been shot April 4, 1968.

Additionally, wasn't it Lyndon Johnson, a democrat, that signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964? Yes, I do believe it was ...

I did a cursory search for "democrats fought blacks" and did come back with a couple interesting results. One from "Echoes of Enoch - Biblical Research of the Paranormal", that claims in "Unknown History, The Real History of Civil Rights Movement",

"Facts about racism in the Democratic Party can be found in books such as A Short History of Reconstruction by Dr. Eric Foner and Wrong on Race: The Democratic Party's Buried Past by Bruce Bartlett.  Two other books are Unfounded Loyalty and Unveiling the Whole Truth by Rev. Wayne Perryman.  Rev. Perryman wrote his books after conducting five years of research.  He then sued the Democratic Party for that party’s 200-year history of racism.  Under oath in court, the Democrats admitted their racist past, but refused to apologize because they know that they can take the black vote for granted."

Another was from "Black and Right",

"This is the kind of BS spewed by Democrats on a daily basis, and unfortunately the media and other so-called watchdogs are so apparently ignorant of American history, Democrats continue to LIE through their teeth to their constituents, and via academia, to our kids."

Neither seems a hardly credible source, but I'll leave this one to you to figure out for now. Just remember what they say, "If it's on the internet, it must be true."
