In defense of Mercer

"I want to make clear: I am not against Muslims," Saucedo Mercer said. "I am against radical Islamic terrorists. Their only goal in life is to come to this country and cause us harm ... If they love America, if they don't have any terrorist ties, welcome."

"I am not apologizing. Do you know why I am not apologizing? Becasue 9/11 islamic terrorists, fundamentalists, whatever you want to call it they were here in this country legally and they killed 3,000 of our people and nobody has apologized for it."

She will win. President Palin can count on Gabby.
Regarding her incendiary comments about not wanting "middle easterners" in this country "legally or illegally", Mercer's camp "Could have tried the old 'misspoke' line, but no, everyone must be lying about what you were recorded on video saying. Pesky facts and recordings! It's so easy to just go watch and figure out how she's lying. I'm surprised they haven't pulled the video yet. I know...shouldn't give them ideas..."
- The Tytalan Way

“I can assure you that she has no blanket bias against people from the Middle East. Maybe she should have said terrorist-oriented Middle Easterners.”
-Ted Mercer

Some pundits are saying [Gov Jan Brewer's last minute cancellation Sept 12] means Brewer is withdrawing support for Saucedo Mercer's campaign. However, Brewer's staff told Saucedo Mercer's staff that it's simple scheduling conflict and the governor will try to find another time to campaign for Saucedo Mercer.
Brewer has endorsed Saucedo Mercer for Congress.
Mercer isn't the only lawmaker to propound the theory that radical Muslim extremists are taking advantage of America's immigration laws to inflict harm. Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) once called illegal immigration a "slow-motion terrorist attack." Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) has insisted that terrorists come to America to have babies so they can be born as U.S. citizens. Mercer would put a Hispanic face on the far-fetched theory. It's unclear whether publicizing Mercer's comments will help or hurt her campaign.

"There might have been a little gaffe there, but I know that she is a good, decent person, and she would make a wonderful elected official."
- Governor Jan Brewer
