The Convient Case of the Stolen Campaign Signs

This story is probably the genesis of Gabriela Saucedo Mercer's dislike of Raul Grijalva, but it's hard to say because new evidence appears all the time. Back in October 2010, while Mercer was working as a "campaign volunteer for several Republican candidates," she and a small group of  "military parents" went to Grijalva’s congressional office "to ask for information about his stance on war,"  according to the Arizona Daily Star.

Mercer "and two others then headed to his campaign office" to catch Grijalva when they were greeted by Grijalva staffer Ruben Reyes.

The report states that during the encounter, as Reyes opened the trunk of his SUV, "Gabriela Mercer, 46, said she saw two political campaign signs in the back of [the] district director’s" vehicle.

Ruben Reyes
Reyes later said "he found a McClung sign as well as an anti-Grijalva sign, from an unidentified group, laying in his yard" but told Mercer in a “spur of the moment” move that he was going to “put them up.”

Mercer chose to file "a Tucson police complaint ... alleging theft of Ruth McClung’s campaign signs by a staff member of U.S. Congressman Raúl Grijalva."

The reports (page one two and three) are included here for documentation, but the story doesn't end there. At some point, Mercer makes a stop for a "speaking engagement to find a rock had been thrown through her back window," according to Michael Eden.

The story also is recounted here on her Facebook page by a visitor who says she "had her back window of her car broken by a rock thrown through it by some Libtard but spoke out about it on the local news later that night. Gabby also spoke out about Libs stealing Ruth McClung Street signs on the news as well."

It probably goes a long way to say that Mercer had painted in large letters on her rear window supporting Governor Jan Brewer, and that could have been a motivating factor for the perpetrator. Either way, someone could have been hurt and rock throwing is never a good idea.

Regardless, the issue made not only the local news but was picked up, momentarily and in passing, by then Fox commentator Glen Beck.
