- This video was posted to YouTube Apr 29, 2010, the same day that the National Coalition of Latino Clergy and Christian Leaders and a Tucson police officer, Martin Escobar, were the first to file lawsuits against Arizona Senate Bill 1070, with each doing so separately in federal court. Here Ms. Mercer speaks against her own Hispanic interests in defense of SB1070, the controversial bill that the Supreme Court ultimately dissected, essentially disagreeing with Ms. Mercer.
- Carolyn Classen writes in Tuscon Citizen that she "happened to be at the Tucson City Council meeting last Spring when Gabriela stood up & spoke against the Council’s opposition of SB 1070, and Congressman’s Grijalva’s call for a boycott of the State of Arizona. Most of the Mexican Americans in the room spoke against SB 1070."
- From Wikipedia; "The court determined by a 5–3 majority, with Justice Anthony Kennedy writing the opinion, that Sections 3, 5(C), and 6 of SB 1070 are preempted by federal law. These sections make it a state misdemeanor for an immigrant not to be carrying documentation of lawful presence in the country, allow state police to arrest without a warrant in some situations, and make it unlawful under state law for an individual to apply for employment without federal work authorization. All justices agreed to uphold the portion of the law allowing Arizona state police to investigate the immigration status of an individual stopped, detained, or arrested if there is reasonable suspicion that individual is in the country illegally."
- Today we find that emails authored by SB1070 penman Russell Pierce reveal a dialog that suggests SB1070 "was racially motivated", according to the Arizona Republic, after the ACLU acquired "thousands of Pearce e-mails through a public-records request and included dozens of them in a legal motion to block a portion of the law." You can read the actual court documents here.
Gabriela Saucedo Mercer is running in the 2012 election for the U.S. House, representing Arizona's 3rd District. She won her Republican primary on August 28, 2012 with 64% of the vote. The general election against incumbent Democrat Raul M. Grijalva and Libertarian Blanca Guerra takes place on November 6, 2012. Candidate Gabriela Saucedo Mercer lacks the skills to hold federal office and this scrapblog is the evidence behind that accusation.
