Think this headline is a bit extreme? Actually it's pretty mild. Now that Chick Full A Day has passed, and the whole country has digested this statement, it is interesting to note that Gabriela Saucedo Mercer continues to spread the nastiness of the Tea Party like the disease that it is.
On her Facebook page, for some reason, she was compelled to make it clear that she stands with the Family Research Council, and that fact makes it evident that religious freedom, freedom of speech and "traditional family values" have little to do with her stance.
HATRED
The Family Research Council is on the Southern Poverty Law Center's list of Anti-Gay Hate Groups. What that means is that they demonize entire groups of people with falsehoods and propaganda. FRC in particular has associated homosexuals with pedophilia and the abuse of children, which simply isn't true. But worse than that, in 2010, FRC gave $25,000 to lobby Congress to vote against a resolution that would denounce Uganda’s Anti-Homosexuality Bill of 2009, which threatened to hang homosexuals. It quickly became known as the “Kill the Gays” bill. This should be just fine with Saucedo Mercer, because it fits in with her world view, a world view where everyone is a communist and everything is a conspiracy. That theory extends to homosexuals, where "... the gay movement is an evil institution' whose goal is 'to defeat the marriage-based society and replace it with a culture of sexual promiscuity". Additionally, FRC supports the view that homosexual behavior is worthy of criminal sanctions and works diligently against a "homosexual agenda", and if you have read any of my material here you know that Ms. Mercer is very opposed to any AGENDA that is not in line with her own.
RACISM
So far in her political career, without ever being elected to any office, Ms. Mercer has supported SB 1070, the Support Our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act which was universally rejected by the nation as xenophobic and un American, and stripped of it's controversial "show me your papers" rhetoric by the Supreme Court. At the time Mercer supported it the law sparked intense controversy and debate, and sent fear through the Hispanic community, of which Mercer is, in name only, a member of. Paula Pennypacker, an Arizona Political blogger labeled SB 1070 "a political opportunists dream." Even longtime Arizona residents, American citizens all, were in fear of this law - afraid to leave the house without ID, afraid that maybe they would be stopped, detained and held without counsel until their "status" was verified, and many were.
The phenomenon, called "Driving While Latino" (DWL) remains a very real fear, and continues today. Recently it has been revealed that the Bill's author, then state Senator Russell Pierce, was allegedly racially motivated in writing the law according to emails recovered by the ACLU. Pierce is http://www.answercoalition.org/march-forward/assets/images/sb-1070.jpgcurrently seeking Re election using a phony "Eduction" [SIC] award in his campaign materials. So, with this single action of support, captured on video for all to see, Gabriela Saucedo Mercer has stood in favor of racial profiling (even though she claims it isn't in the bill, which clearly shows her misunderstanding of the issues), she has stood in favor of a disgraced politician with a racial agenda who clearly will do anything to get elected, and last but not least she has stood against her own people, people of both race and state: the very people she is running to represent.
SUPPRESSION OF SPEECH
As if all this wasn't enough, Gabriela Saucedo Mercer has stood in favor of abolishing Ethnic Studies, particularly in Tuscon. She sees the curriculum as communist, socialist "or whatever you want to call it", and stood to support state legislation that would have seen teachers fired and their credentials revoked for having a "partisan" thought. Now, any reasonable person could assume that if you are opposed to a certain curriculum, and you have support, a teacher warning, reprimand even suspension should be sufficient deterrents. But Mercer actually supports the ELIMINATION of the Department of Education, something she sees, again, as communist. So her support of teachers being fired for the ideas in their heads, shocking as it is, should be no surprise. To Saucedo Mercer, the communist plan to take over the United States begins when "mothers get out of the home," then "they take over the schools by the government."
Gabriela Saucedo Mercer is running in the 2012 election for the U.S. House, representing Arizona's 3rd District. She won her Republican primary on August 28, 2012 with 64% of the vote. The general election against incumbent Democrat Raul M. Grijalva and Libertarian Blanca Guerra takes place on November 6, 2012. Candidate Gabriela Saucedo Mercer lacks the skills to hold federal office and this scrapblog is the evidence behind that accusation.
