Governor skips Saucedo Mercer Fundraiser

AZ Governor Jan Brewer Backs Out of Gabriela Gabby Saucedo Mercer Tuscon Fund Raiser, Replaced by "entertainer", Free Food and Cash Bar

Seems Gariela Saucedo Mercer is a hot potato. So hot that even Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer can't stand the heat.

Brewer "has bailed on a Republican congressional candidate who landed in hot water last month after saying Middle Eastern immigrants should be banned from the U.S. Phoenix television station KTVK reported on Tuesday that Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R) abruptly dropped out of a fundraiser she was scheduled to headline for Gabriela Saucedo Mercer, the party’s nominee in southern Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District. Saucedo Mercer had just earned Brewers endorsement Aug 13, just under 30 days prior.

“The governor will not be attending,” Brewer’s spokesman Matt Benson told the station on Monday. Benson declined to say why. He said Brewer was not rescinding her endorsement and may help the candidate in the future, but he offered no specific plans.

The fundraiser was set to be held Wednesday in Tucson, Ariz. Saucedo Mercer had promoted the appearance for weeks, even prior to winning an Aug. 28 primary. The last time she mentioned it on Facebook was Sept. 1, when she wrote: “seats are going fast, book yours now!!”

"Brewer was slated to headline the event Wednesday in Tucson for the Republican but canceled without giving a reason why ... the Arizona Chapter of Council on American-Islamic Relations said they're disappointed that Brewer would continue supporting Saucedo Mercer" According to this article by Dennis Welch on AZfamily.com "The fact that she boycotted the fundraiser, that's a good first start, but it's not good enough," said Anas Hlayel, the chairman of CAIR's Arizona chapter.

 

Now all it says on her website is "Also enjoy Entertainer Brad Zinn, Hors 'oeuvres and cash bar",  which is very interesting - Mercer is giving away free food, but she is opposed to hand outs and freebies for the poor and the homeless. I guess it's okay to give freebies as long as you are looking to suck up votes.
